Electronics recycling bill dies in Hawaii

The Hawaii Legislature tabled a bill for this year that would have expanded the requirements for electronics recycling. Because the bill’s original definition of electronics was written broadly, it could have required certain mattresses with electronic components to be recycled.

The International Sleep Products Association, working with electronics trade associations and the Product Management Alliance, persuaded lawmakers to alter the bill so that it did not include mattresses. The legislation is eligible for consideration next year, but ISPA expects mattresses to remain excluded.
